MLB Debut

After playing the Minor Leagues for a few years, Jackie finally made his Major League Debut. He debuted for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field on April 15, 1947. There was 26,623 people in attendance, including more than 14,000 African Americans. He was the first African-American player in the Major League since 1889 when the sport first became segregated. When he broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball he challenged the custom of segregation in all of America.
